It was evening rush hour, the three mannequins were displaying clothes for sale as people walked by the department store. As the evening grew dark and the sidewalks became deserted, the mannequins lost their purpose of selling clothes when no one to saw them.
This observation lead me to photograph at night.
I was interested in the transformation from the daylight to night, the populated to empty spaces and our perception of familiar locations with different lighting.
I used a view camera on a tripod with 4″ by 5″ negative film and five minute exposures while using a portable hand held flash to light the scene.
